Media outlets and social media accounts published photos and video clips of the girl Ward Al-Sheikh Khalil, claiming that she was the child who appeared amidst the flames that broke out in the Fahmi Al-Jarjawi School as a result of the Israeli occupation’s bombing of the school. This scene gained significant traction on social media platforms.

Kashif verified the information and found it to be inaccurate. Kashif contacted journalist Wissam Shabat, who clarified that the girl who appeared in the video walking among the flames is Hanin Al-Wadiya, the sole survivor of her family. He added that he conducted an interview with Ahmad Al-Wadiya, Hanin’s uncle.

Kashif also contacted Ahmad Al-Wadiya, Hanin’s uncle, who said that the girl who appears in the video walking through the flames inside the Fahmi Al-Jarjawi School is his niece Hanin, and that she is the sole survivor of the family. He added that Hanin suffered second- and third-degree burns covering 25% of her face, hands, and legs, and she is receiving treatment at the Baptist Hospital in Gaza. Al-Wadiya stated that Hanin’s father, mother, and sister were martyred in the attack on the school. Hanin was asleep when the bombing occurred and woke up to find the fire around her. She fled until the civil defense team found her.

Civil Defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal confirmed to Kashif that the girl who appeared walking among the flames is Hanin Al-Wadiya. He also published a video on his Facebook account in which he spoke with the girl Hanin Al-Wadiya and confirmed that she is the one who appears in the widely circulated scene amid the flames.

The girl Hanin Al-Wadiya

As for the girl Ward Al-Sheikh Khalil, she was present in the same school that was subjected to the massacre, which is the Fahmi Al-Jarjawi School. All members of her family were killed, and only she and her injured father survived. The Civil Defense published a video of the moment she was rescued from under the rubble and stated that her siblings are still under the debris and her father is in an ambulance.

Journalist Hani Abu Rizq also confirmed to Kashif that the video of the girl walking among the flames belongs to Hanin Al-Wadiya, who is the only survivor of her family and suffered burns to the face, hands, and legs. As for the girl Ward Al-Sheikh Khalil, she was in the same school and lost all her family members, with only she and her injured father remaining.

The Israeli occupation army committed a massacre by bombing the Fahmi Al-Jarjawi School, which was sheltering thousands of displaced people in the Al-Daraj neighborhood in the center of Gaza City. According to the Government Media Office, the attack resulted in 31 martyrs, including 18 children and 6 women.
